I recently completed a PhD in the inimitable Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago, writing a dissertation on the translation of philosophical canons between Europe and China in the early twentieth century. Articles based on my research have appeared in Comparative Literature and History of Humanities.
I currently serve on the board of the American Literary Translators Association as the vice president. ALTA's board is elected by ALTA's 700+ members to ensure ALTA best supports our work as professional literary translators. I was born in Singapore and grew up in Hong Kong. After studying comparative literature and creative writing at Princeton University, I worked in the financial sector in London and Shanghai. In 2015-2016 I held a visiting fellowship at Fudan University in Shanghai. In 2016-2017 I held a DAAD fellowship at the Freie Universität Berlin. In the autumn of 2017 I was resident at the Vermont Studio Center. Until 2019 I was Senior Editor (Chinese) at Asymptote Journal. I am a member of the Third Coast Translators Collective.
