This illustration was created as the book cover art for ‘The Animals of My Earth School’; A collection of poetry by Mildred Kiconco Barya, published by Terrapin Books.
"In the compassionate, playful, fable-like poems...Mildred Kiconco Barya awakens us to the vividly singing, fully alive, non-human communities surrounding us. These poems demonstrate poetry's unique ability to prick us from our self-involved numbness and awaken us to wonder..." - Michael Hettich

Singing Holidays are sustainable small-group music holidays for people who love to sing, whether classical, folk, music theatre, pop or world music. It’s an opportunity to sing in a stunning location, stay in a beautiful nest and be taught by and perform with some of the best professional musicians from Europe and beyond.
‘Birth Of The Planets’ was inspired by Bonfire Night. I wanted to capture the exhilaration of watching firework displays as a child; how the sparks, shapes and patterns come into existence and disappear almost like an accelerated life span of planets and stars.
I was commissioned by Munich-based jewellery house Hemmerle, to create several illustrated elements for their multifaceted project ‘Infused Jewels’.
‘The Herb Garden’ was one aspect of this project; a modern fairytale written by Greta Bellamacina and illustrated by Rosanna Tasker, which celebrates the herbs in the tea and jewellery.
‘The Herb Garden’ explores our collective influence on the world and the power of embracing community and nature. It tells of the joy and colour to be found in reintroducing nature to the urban environment, creating an oasis in the heart of a desolate city, and celebrates the beauty of individuality. Imbued with symbolism and allegory, the reader is invited to embark on a meditative journey, forging a relationship with the story through subjective interpretation. The text is accompanied by Rosanna Tasker’s mesmerising hand-drawn illustrations. Her distinct style transports the reader into a dreamlike, fantasy world and encompasses the story’s themes in effervescent visual detail.
‘Infused Jewels’ is an experiential body of work inspired by the natural elements of herbal tea. Born out of collaborations with creatively aligned makers, Hemmerle’s fascination with humankind’s symbiotic relationship with nature has culminated in a multi-sensory project of ten pairs of earrings and three brooches, a bespoke tea blend, an illustrated modern fairy-tale, and a hand-crafted tea caddy. Taking shape over four years in total, the project inherently conveys the value of slowing down, contemplating, and savouring the moment.

This illustration was painted during an Artist’s Residency in California, as a memory of a beautiful sunny day spent fruit picking. I imagined the trees were infinite and you could climb ladders high up into the leafy canopy to eat plums and watch the birds.
An altered version of the original illustration was later used on the cover of In The Moment magazine, published by Immediate Media.
Commissioned by Corriere Della Sera for the cover of the newspaper’s COOK Magazine, this illustration was inspired by the beautifully eclectic coordination of Italian street markets, to promote the joys of shopping for and cooking with local fresh ingredients.
Created as a personal project, The Natatorium grew from a love of steamy baths, wild swimming and botanical glasshouses.
This painting was made for Condé Nast Traveler, for an article on picnic foods from around the world; including Mexico, Kenya, Ireland, France and Japan.
Painted for the Washington Post, this illustration featured in print as the cover of their Winter Weather Guide.
‘Secret Picnic Club’ is a self-initiated illustration celebrating the beauty and mysterious magic of my favourite tree, the Weeping Willow.
Created as a personal project, ‘Read To Me’ attempts to capture the contentment of reading outside on a summery day. This illustration was used on the cover of Red Wolf Periodical; an independent publication for writers and artists.
‘Sienna Valley’ is a self-initiated illustration, encapsulating the beauty and wonder of the autumn season, as the trees change colour and release their leaves into the wind.
This piece was designed for Parcelle, a curated Wine Shop in New York. They were looking for an image that included an elderly grandma appreciating good Italian food and wine in a Tuscan garden. The image was used as the cover of their wine booklet.

Travel & Leisure commissioned me to design this poster page, to introduce and lead into the feature section of the magazine. This issue’s feature was on the city of San Juan in Puerto Rico, so I wanted the image to be bold and inviting, celebrating the amazing colours of San Juan’s streets.

‘Festive Lights’ featured in my 2023 calendar and as a Christmas greetings card design.
Commissioned by Terasu, this illustration was created as wall art for a bedroom in Soil Setoda, a small inn/ community centre on a Japanese island near Hiroshima. The area is known for its high production of lemons.
‘The Richest Man In Babylon’ by George S. Clason is a collection of parables set in Ancient Babylon used to dispense financial advice. It is widely regarded as a classic book in personal finance management.
For this illustration commissioned by Quarto Publishing Group, it was important to maintain a level of cultural and historical accuracy in the characters and setting, while also allowing flair and stylisation to shine through and bring the stories to life. I used colour to differentiate between the two men’s attitudes towards wealth; with the red and gold robe representing bravado and gaudy carelessness with riches, and the peacock blue colour (inspired by The Ishtar Gate) symbolising a more sophisticated and meditated approach to finances.
Created as a personal project, Herb Drying is a painting capturing the turn of the season; harvesting garden herbs in Autumn and drying them out in preparation for the Winter.
‘Rewilding Motherhood’ is a book by Shannon K. Evans, published by Brazos Press. For the cover, I designed the layout and illustrated all decorative elements, as well as producing the hand-rendered type.
‘Feminist Prayers For My Daughter’ is the second book cover I illustrated, written by Shannon K. Evans. A series of greyscale spot illustrations were also created for each chapter opener.
In The Moment magazine commissioned these four illustrations for their regular columns; Wellness, Living, Creativity and Escaping. The subject matter of the pieces ranged from exploring Scottish island Eilean Shona, to improving your creative skills through gentle practice.
‘Evergreen’ is a self-initiated illustration, set in the festive season, as we bring elements of the outdoors inside for decoration and celebration.
‘The Art of War’ by Sun Tzu is an ancient Chinese military treatise exploring aspects of warfare, military strategy and tactics. Today, the book remains a hugely influential strategy text in military thinking, business tactics, legal strategy, lifestyles and beyond.
Commissioned and published by Editorial Alma, I created a series of thirteen chapter illustrations for their Classics Collection reprint of the book. Working to a duotone format, and limited to greyscale and red, I was able to focus on shape and compositional impact. Due to the subject matter and analogical nature of the text, it suited the illustrations to heavily use symbolism and metaphor.
‘Daffodil Days’ is a self-initiated illustration, about the sense of hope and happiness spring brings along.
This painting was commissioned by Think Publishing, for the cover of ‘Therapy Today’ Magazine. The title article looked into the ways in which the pandemic has affected cases of domestic violence, as well as the struggles of those who had recently left abusive relationships; trying to put their lives back together whilst being isolated without their support networks.
The design needed to be sensitive and conceptual due to the delicate subject matter, and I was mindful about presenting the victim at the forefront of the story, instead of the perpetrator or the violence itself.
Commissioned by Reader’s Digest for the cover of their February issue, this illustration highlighted their inside article about the difficulties of winter and its effect on both mental and physical health conditions. The image needed to evoke the cold, moody atmosphere of a winter’s day, as well as gently encouraging time spent outdoors even through the colder months.

‘Under The Orange Tree’ was created for Folklore Exhibition at Hamilton House, Bristol. The exhibition by Gordy Wright, aimed to showcase and celebrate folk stories, myths and legends from around the world, through a collection of artwork created by a group of international artists.
I chose to accompany the Indian folk tale ‘The Brâhmiṇ Girl that Married a Tiger’, illustrating a scene in which the woman and the tiger (disguised as a human) share a picnic on their journey before she discovers her husband’s true identity.
Illustrated for Hidden Compass, these illustrations accompany Erin Byrne's essay 'Our Ravaged Lady' as she finds her kindred spirit in the Notre Dame Cathedral. In keeping with the tone of the writing, the images needed to convey a sense of sadness as well as a hint of hope in the darkness.
This illustration was published in The Cube Cinema’s ‘Quaranzine’, a publication about life in lockdown during the Covid-19 crisis. I wanted the image to convey one of the more positive aspects of being in quarantine that many people have felt; A slower pace of life allowing for more time and space with yourself.
‘Sanctuary’ was painted for Hive Exhibition, a group show celebrating the cultural and creative significance of non-profit artist studio space, as well as highlighting the loss that occurs due to gentrification of creative cities. A tenant of this type of studio myself, I wanted to communicate the feeling of tranquility and inspiration these spaces can provide us, and the steadfast creative community that arises from building and nourishing them together. The illustration also played into the idea of growth, and how these spaces can blossom and positively impact the wider community. The glass walls of the structure signify the fragile future of community interest buildings.
Our Planet Week is an annual online illustration movement that aims to create environmental awareness, provide a platform for discussion and drive change. Participating in the organisation for Our Planet Week 2021 as one of the hosts, this was my illustrative response to the prompt ‘Protect’, signalling the dangerous role that deforestation plays in the climate crisis, and the importance of protecting our trees and forests. Through partnering with the organisation One Tree Planted, each illustration posted during the week planted a tree, reaching our goal of planting 5,000 trees.
Editorial illustrations for Brio Magazine across a variety of subjects, including learning to be a better listener, family trees, finding awe in nature, and enjoying your own company.

‘By The Light Of The Fire’ is a self-initiated illustration, inspired by the sense of freedom and peace felt while camping in the British wilderness.
This illustration was painted for The Simple Things magazine, for the cover of their March issue. They wanted a feeling of freedom shown through a springtime scene, with a daring colour scheme of pink and green.

This series of maps was part of an ad campaign by Singapore Airlines, published by Culture Trip. The maps showcased a number of recommended attractions to visit in each city destination, and were intended to be abstract rather than accurate representations of locations. Therefore the designs needed to be kept loose and minimalist, with mostly linework and some painted elements. The images for each attraction were also used as simple graphic icons further into the campaign.
Commissioned by Rotary Magazine, this illustration featured alongside their article ‘Remembering Jewish Salonica’. The illustration uses the symbol of the dove to represent the Jewish community, peace, and the value of human life.

Commissioned by The Washington Post, this illustration was the cover design of the Local Living section of the newspaper, referencing the article ‘How gardening can help build healthier, happier kids’. The second spot image appeared internally and online alongside the article.
Painted for the cover of The Bath Magazine, this illustration referred to an inner article about the importance of buying local food produce. We wanted the image to celebrate the simple pleasures of buying local; the rich colours, tactile textures, varied pattern and details of fresh fruit and veg, as well as focusing the illustration on the joy and mindfulness of shopping for fresh ingredients at a farmers market and admiring your bounty on the kitchen table when you get home

Commissioned by Saga Magazine, this image featured as the title illustration for their Health & Wellbeing section, with a focus on their article about winter loneliness and depression.
Commissioned by climate action group Possible, this artwork was included in an anthology by Sophie Yeo titled ‘Stories Of Heat From Our Warming World’. Painted as an editorial illustration for Peeps Magazine, this illustration accompanies an article on Strategic Foresight; exploring the pitfalls of the current model of the future, and the possibility of a more sustainable, community-orientated model.
Walnut Magazine commissioned these two editorial illustrations for their article about the positive effects of fresh food on our brains and mental health.
This series was created for an ad campaign by Praxis, raising awareness of Cold Agglutinin Disease. The trio of illustrations were intended to show some of the regular daily activities that can trigger symptoms for people suffering from CAD; hiking in an autumn breeze, swimming on holiday and shopping in the refrigerated isle of the supermarket. I chose a thematic palette of blue (to represent the cold) and red (as CAD is a condition affecting red blood cells).
For this project, I was commissioned by Conde Nast Traveller to create 26 illustrated letters for their ‘A-Z Guide To Travelling Sustainably’. The alphabet included a mixture of fully illustrated scenes and simple graphic spot illustrations.
